Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to go on safari in Africa?

The best time to go on safari in Africa is generally during the dry season, which runs from June to October in many regions. During this period, animals congregate around rivers and waterholes, making wildlife easier to spot and photograph. The wetter months from November to March bring greener landscapes, fewer tourists, and outstanding bird-watching opportunities, which appeal to travelers looking for a quieter experience.

What can I expect during a safari tour?

A typical safari tour includes daily game drives led by experienced guides, opportunities to photograph wildlife, and time to relax at lodges or tented camps located close to nature. Most safaris operate early in the morning and late in the afternoon when animals are most active, with meals and leisure time scheduled around these excursions.

Is going on safari safe?

Safaris are generally safe when operated by licensed companies that follow established park regulations and conservation guidelines. Professional guides are trained in animal behavior and visitor safety, and vehicles and camps are designed to minimize risk. Guests are always advised to follow instructions and standard travel precautions throughout their trip.

What should I pack for a safari?

Packing typically includes comfortable, neutral-colored clothing suitable for warm days and cooler mornings, along with a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Closed walking shoes, a light jacket, binoculars, and a camera with a zoom lens are also recommended. Many lodges provide laundry services, allowing travelers to pack lightly.

Will I see the Big Five on safari?

Many safari destinations are home to the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros—but sightings can never be guaranteed since animals roam freely in vast natural areas. Experienced guides greatly improve the chances of memorable encounters, making every game drive unique.
