Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park lies in southern Tanzania and forms part of the greater Selous–Nyerere ecosystem. The park is characterized by wide open grasslands bordered by distant mountains, often compared to the Serengeti for its sweeping savannah scenery. Mikumi offers excellent wildlife viewing, with frequent sightings of elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, lions, leopards, and African wild dogs. Hippos and crocodiles are commonly seen in the park’s waterholes and river systems. Its accessibility from Dar es Salaam makes it one of the country’s most popular parks for short safaris or weekend getaways, while still retaining a sense of untamed wilderness.
